Is Your Index Toe Longer Than Your Big Toe? Look No Further!!
If your index toe is longer than your big toe, then you, like 10% of the population have what is called Morton’s toe. Morton’s toe is named after orthopedic surgeon and author Dudley Morton. Between the 1920’s and 1950’s Dr. Morton researched and wrote several articles about the ‘deformity’ he kept seeing. Morton’s toe is genetic and has been linked to several other health problems. Some of those problems include: back pain, neck pain, instability walking, arthritis, knee pain and fibromyalgia. Morton’s Toe causes hyper mobility of the first metatarsal and big toe. This leads to a lack of stability for the entirety of the foot.
If you are afflicted by Morton’s toe and suffer from one or more of these health problems, don’t fret! Most can be helped or alleviated completely through orthotics or pads placed in the shoes.
