“Girls like guys with scars.” We’ve all heard this expression before but is it really true? I know the same can’t be said in reverse… “Guys like girls with scars”.  While some women might find certain scars on men attractive (Al Pacino in “Scarface” comes to mind), I believe both sexes would be better off minimizing scars as much as possible.

Several over-the-counter products have been produced that treat hypertrophic and unsightly scars. For example, I always recommend the use of both Mederma and Cocoa Butter for care of the incision site after surgery.

There are also several clinical and surgical treatments as well. This may include other topical treatments such as a specially formulated scar care kit, massage, cortisone injection, or surgical removal. Also available is the Cutera laser, located at our Huber Heights office, which has a special setting specifically designed to treat scars without the need for cortisone injection or surgical excision.

At Advanced Foot and Ankle Care we try to minimize scarring on patients.  This isn’t true for just post-surgical care but for scars not created by surgical intervention as well.  Scars can cause contraction of skin and soft tissue and lead to other deformities.  If a scar does not respond to topical treatment, our doctors have the training and experience to know which of these treatments would best serve each particular patient.
